The world as we know it has changed drastically, and with it the notion and understanding of normality, isolation and togetherness. In a decade where mass movements, solidarity and unifying causes are increasingly common, we find ourselves almost constantly in the mass. Are solidarity and solitude opposing poles or two mutually dependent constants that divide people among themselves? What potential does solitude hold and at what point does solidarity become an uncontrollable force of nature? Against the backdrop of major social and political cataclysms, GEMeinsam looks at the concepts of solitude and solidarity as captivating phenomenons in an emotionally charged and highly relevant dance-theater production.
Hamburg-based international choreographer Jessica Nupen is known for her expressive dance-theater vocabulary. The focus of her oeuvre is the examination of the paradoxes and dilemmas of the human social situation in the context of political transformation. GEMeinsam explores our current physical and psychological disposition through the eyes of 10 international artists. Creation of the work began in 2019 just before the pandemic hit and has evolved exponentially into a pertinent and necessary work.
